The newest sign of sexiness and vigor is a flat tummy. It seems that everyone is trying to tone their midsection in order to fit into slimmer size of jeans or show off their midriff. However, with all of the workouts and plans that are available, how do you know what the best way to flatten your tummy is? Here are the basics that will help anyone – man or woman.
Flattening the tummy starts with your diet
The first thing that you need to do in order to flatten your tummy is to start eating more healthy foods. When you continue to eat high amounts of fat, salt, and calories, you are creating the perfect conditions for a less than perfect midsection.
The flat tummy diet includes lots of vegetables, fruits, and whole grains as well as lean meats and low fat dairy products. You may want to start reducing the amount of calories that you are eating each day as well, but only if you believe that you are eating more than should be.
To determine how much you should be eating for your flat tummy diet, write down your current weight. Now, multiply that number by ten. This is the absolute minimum that you need to eat in order to stay alive. (e.g 140Ibs x 10 = 1400 calories)
But this isn’t what you want to base your calorie total on. Next, multiple the number that you got by anywhere from 1.1 to 1.3. You will choose the lower number if you are generally sedentary; but you can choose the higher number if you are already quite active. The result is the number of calories that you need to maintain your current body weight.
1400 x 1.1 = 1540 calories lower number
1400 x 1.3 = 1820 calories higher number
To lose about a pound a week, you will need to reduce your daily calorie consumption by 200 – 300 calories. However, this is a lot of food, so instead you can add calorie burning exercises to the plan to assist reducing those extra calories.
Exercise matters for a flat tummy
When you want a flat tummy, you need to do more than just crunches. You need to focus your efforts on increasing the amount of aerobic exercise that you are doing every day. Try walking or jogging around the block each day – that is a great way to start any fitness program (as long as you’ve gotten the okay from your doctor).
Make sure that you aren’t able to carry on a conversation, but that you can feel your heart rate increasing and your breathing getting a little difficult. You should still be able to breathe, but you shouldn’t be completely comfortable doing so. Try to exercise for at least thirty minutes, three to five times per week. You can also do crunches as a way to strengthen your tummy as you lose inches.
Special tips for flattening your tummy
If you really want to see results quickly, here are some special tips for a flat tummy. First of all, avoid any vegetables that might cause gas to build up in your abdomen – think broccoli and cauliflower. Next, make sure that you are drinking water instead of diet sodas. The carbonation in soda can make your tummy seem larger than it is. Try to avoid sugar and artificial sweeteners as well – they can also bulk up your tummy.
In just a short while, you will be able to see the results of your tummy program and finally fit into those skinny jeans that are at the back of your closet.
